Bangalore: Sophos, the IT security firm, has launched new mobile device management software, Sophos Mobile Control.
The product that is an extension of Sophos' product lines on data protection and security, will protect, monitor and manage the configuration of various mobile devices. It will also allow similar control and protection of laptops and desktops owned by companies.
The mobile security platform is capable of protecting data on smartphones and handheld devices such as Apple iPhones and iPads, Google Android and Windows mobile devices.
It secures the mobile devices by centrally configuring security settings and enabling lockdown of unwanted features.
Features like strong password policy and lock period, control and installation of applications and blocking usage of cameras and browsers will help in enabling the enforcement of consistent security policies.
Facility such as allowing end users to register for new devices and erase or lock lost phones reduces the administrative burden. The access to official emails can also be controlled by the usage of a secure gate permitting only registered and secured devices to access email.
"The definition of a company endpoint is shifting rapidly and security solutions must quickly adapt to provide companies and users the protection they need without causing undue burden on IT staff and users. The introduction of the Sophos Mobile Control provides device and data protection and security controls in the context they need it.", said Matthias Pankert, Head of Data Protection Product Management, Sophos.
According to a Forrester report, smartphones security is the common concerns for most of the leading IT executives. The security risks that are associated with these devices concern 75 percent of the IT executives surveyed. 40 percent of them allow or support Windows Mobile, the iPhones, and Pads.
