Sony eyes 40 percent LCD market in India

New Delhi: Sony, a Japanese sales and marketing firm, strives for leadership in the LCD TV market in India. Consumers with an annual income of five lakh rupees, would remain their main target, as they try to gain 40 percent of the LCD market share. The Korean competition on durables does not come in the threat list for the Sony. and as said by Mr. Masaru Tamagawa, the Managing Director of Sony India, "We don't perceive any slowdown in the television and camcorder category. The demand has been steady' The prices of LCDs have eroded over a time period and we hope to be a leader in the segment." An investment of 60 crores will be done for their LCD and camcorder's marketing activities. It has recently launched its new Bravia W, V and S television series ranging from 20 to 52 inches. The company also plans to establish a software center in Bangalore this year, as a base for the global operations, as told to Business Line. They even plan to strengthen their presence in the organized retail, which will be a major revenue channel.
