Social Wavelength Grabs Second Round Of Angel Funding

Mumbai: Mumbai-based social media agency Social Wavelength has grabbed funds in the second round of angel funding from four investors, including the two existing investors, Sunish Sharma and Jayendra Shah. Apart from the investment, Jayendra Shah, Director, Trans-continental Capital Advisors has also joined the Board of Directors. Previously the company had raised funds from Sharma, Shah and a U.S.-based High Net-Worth Individual (HNI). Mehta was reluctant to share the amount and the names of the remaining investors.

Talking about the investment, Sanjay Mehta, Joint CEO, Social Wavelength says, “Social media is one of the fastest growing spaces at this time. We are one of the key pure-play players in the space and inspite the nature of the business have continued to grow to higher levels. While there are many small and mid-sized companies offering similar services, there are few companies which are pure play social media specialists and to enhance our presence in the market we plan to use the funds for expanding Social Wavelength’s locations to Delhi and Bangalore.”

Social Wavelength was co-founded in 2009 by Sanjay Mehta, Hareesh Tibrewala, and Mihir Karkare. Mehta says, “We are working on creating vertical specialty services within Social Media to cover aspects like Social Media for HR, PR, Market Research, Investor Relations, and others. We will be looking to hire domain specialists for these. We are also working on technology pieces to improve the social media analytics reporting that we are able to get.” Social Wavelength was the Red Herring Asia Top 100 Finalist.

Mehta has over 11 years of experience in building and running internet-based ventures. Prior to founding Social Wavelength, Mehta was the COO at Compare InfoBase. He was also the Director in an electrical and industrial electronics manufacturing and marketing business. Mehta did his M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Southern California, and has a degree in B.E., Electrical Engineering from VJTI, University of Mumbai.

Social Wavelength has a headcount of 120 persons and is looking to grow further. Mehta says that they get leads from all kinds of brands and companies, but their focus is to work with large and significant brands, with larger marketing budgets, which would enable them to do exciting work in social media.
