These mushrooms are found in many parts of the world, but the Japanese version is the one which is the hardest to find which makes its expensive. They are easy to harvest but Japan harvest less than 1000 tons of this fungus in a year. The spicy aromatic odor of the mushroom is something that top chef’s in the world die to cook with.
The reason for the sharp decline in the past 50 years in the production of mushrooms is that a parasite destroys most of the pine trees that this particular mushroom hosts on! The highest grade of this mushroom can attain prices as high as
