6. White Truffle

A truffle is a mushroom which are dug out by fungivores; animals that eat fungi. Pigs are one of the main fungivores who are reared to dig out truffles. Truffles are a much loved ingredient in cuisines like French, Spanish, Northern Italian, and Greek.

There are many varieties of Truffles available like the White Truffle, Black Truffle etc. Out of these the White variety are the most expensive. It can reach 12 cm in diameter and weigh 500 grams. At normal prices these truffles are sold at a price between 75,000 and 1 lakh per kilogram.

But this isn’t the limit to which a white truffle was sold. In December 2011 was when the white truffle shocked everyone by being sold at 2 cores for 1.5 kilograms. Stanley Ho, who is the owner of Macau Casino was the person behind this obscene price.
