SatNav enters into agreement with Survey of India

Bangalore: SatNav Technologies, a provider of GPS navigation products, has entered into a strategic tie up to use India's principal mapping agency, Survey of India (SOI) maps for building value added products. Through the agreement, SatNav will be able to release the SOI approved digital maps and custom map content within the public domain for commercial use in a range of navigation and location-based solutions (LBS) in the mobile and personal navigation system.
"It should serve the needs of society to get benefitted from core data and sets (Digital topographic database) generated by Survey of India by identifying their user specific needs. It will certainly help in improving the quality of life," said Major General R.S. Tanwar, Additional Surveyor General of India.
SatNav Technologies has released an enhanced map data base, which is being created since 2000, now covers 404 cities and 16 lakh Points of Interest (POIs). The maps would have enhanced features like more POI content, accuracy, road network validation, gap in median and turn restrictions. The maps are constantly enhanced and the company plans to grow this to 500 cities, 30 lakh destinations, covering six lakh villages across the country.
The partnership with SOI complies with the regulations of the Government of India and the provisions of the National Mapping Policy.
"We are constantly building navigation applications keeping in mind our end user and through this map enhancement we expect to meet the growing market demand for navigation, map and location-based services and technologies," said Amit Prasad, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, SatNav Technologies.
