Sajal Co-Founded TriplePoint Capital raises $1 Billion
Fremont: California-based TriplePoint Capital, global provider of customized debt financing, leasing and direct equity investments to high growth venture capital-backed companies, has closed on $1 billion of private capital funds. The fund raised is the largest private or public capital raised by any company in the 30-year history of venture leasing and lending industry. The fund is raised from institutional and private funds managed by and other private investors. Goldman Sachs was the advisor to the financing. The fund will help the company to expand its portfolio of venture debt financing and equity investments along with the expansion of its product offering of innovative and creative dent financing and leasing solutions to venture capital-backed companies. The company is also planning to broaden its geographic focus globally. "Our newly closed funding allows us to continue delivering TriplePoint's unique strategy of meeting the long-term debt financing needs of our customers and VC partners at every stage of a company's lifespan, from the seed and early stages right through profitability and their IPO," said Jim Labe, Co-Founder and CEO, TriplePoint Capital. Co-Founded in 2006 by Jim Labe and Sajal Srivastava, the company has provided almost $6 billion in lease and loan financings to more than 3,000 of venture capital backed companies and are widely recognized as the preferred provider of debt financing in their fraternity. The size of their typical investment ranges from $25,000 to $5 million or more for opportunities in seed and venture stage companies. The company has committed to invest more than $400 million of new business in 2011 with high growth venture capital-backed companies in more than 15 countries worldwide, along with Silicon Valley, Southern California, Massachusetts, New York and other key U.S. markets. Srivastava is the Co-Founder and COO of TriplePoint Capital. He oversees the company's investment analysis, account servicing, portfolio monitoring and documentation groups. Prior to this, he worked at Comdisco Ventures, where he worked directly with Jim Labe. Prior to it, Srivastava was a financial analyst in the technology investment-banking group at Prudential Securities working on debt and equity financings, as well as mergers and acquisitions advisory services. He holds a M.S. in Engineering Economic Systems and Operations Research and B.A. in Economics from Stanford University. The company's portfolio includes more than 300 industry-leading and highly recognized venture capital-backed companies in the technology, cleantech and life sciences sectors. The investment team of TriplePoint Capital comprises of Jon Baird, Kai Tse, Vivek Pandita, UDay Sandhu, and Ash Vaidya and several others.
