Right to recall can better the country's political system in many ways. Firstly, at the possibility of a mid-term recall, the candidate is less likely to treat his voters with contempt. Every candidate, with this thought at the back of their mind, would engage with the people throughout their term. With the possibility of a recall, every candidate will be prudent in spending big money to lure voters with freebies like drinks and cash. Another benefit of this reform is that people would hold the right to correct a wrong decision made at the last elections. While right to recall is vital for the electoral reforms and is possibly the only way to end the political corruption, there are some major challenges to be addressed to. Firstly the right to recall can go wrong in places where law and order can be manipulated by the political powerhouses which will enable thugs to remain in power. Secondly in a country like India where elections are a costly affair, this reform will give rise to frequent elections and political instability. Elected representatives would refrain from taking bold decision in fear of a recall. The task of verifying the authenticity of those wanting to recall their legislators is going to be an arduous task for the election commission.
