Road from Ramban to Kashmir: Road often serves as the lifeline of the people to move from one place to another. But, at a place like Ramban, a town in Jammu and Kashmir, road has become a death trap because of the serpentine narrow roads. Not even a month pass by without any mishaps or tragedy on the roads in this town. Hundreds of lives are lost every year in road accidents. The state administration after every accident announces that it was initiating schemes for ensuring road safety. Many a time it even announces very high-sounding measures and traffic regulations, but these are hardly implemented.

Jaduguda mines: Located in Purbi Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, Jaduguda mines was the first uranium mine in India. It is a small township of Uranium Corporation India Limited, a sprawling complex fed by three underground Uranium mines and the by-product from three nearby copper mines.

All of the uranium for India’s ten Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (Powers) comes from a Single uranium processing plant at Jadugoda. But these uranium mines has put about 50,000 people in and around Jaduguda at severe risk. The people, mostly tribal communities, suffer from serious radiation-related health problems. According to the union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in the villages in Jaduguda, the percentage of congenital deformity itself is at 4.49 percent, as compared to 2.49 percent in the reference villages. Because of a constant exposure to low and toxic level emission, children are born with swollen heads, blood disorders and skeletal distortions.
