Rapid Micro Biosystems secures $18.6 Million Series A funding
Bangalore: Rapid Micro Biosystems, which develops products to detect microbial contamination, has raised $18.6 million in Series A venture funding. The company schedules to expand its market presence and product portfolio through this financing. The companies which funded Rapid Micro Biosystems in this round include Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, TMV Capital, Quaker Bio Ventures and VIMAC Milestone Medica Fund (VMM). Headquarted in Bedford, the privately held company Rapid Micro Biosysytems looks forward to help the biopharmaceutical and personal care industries to improve quality, safety and costs in their product supply chains. Through the expansion of its product offering, the company plans to grow its presence in U.S., Europe, and ultimately worldwide. Currently, there are about 50 employees in the company. The Growth Direst System which is a lead product of Rapid Micro Biosystems, reduces microbial contamination testing time by using its digital imaging technology to replace detection by the human eye. The Growth Direct System was commercialized in 2008 and is currently available in U.S. and Europe, where units have been sold to major pharmaceutical companies.
