Psy's 'Gangnam Style' becomes first Youtube video to cross 2 billion views
LOS ANGELES: South Korean rapper Psy's superhit 'Gangnam Style' has become the first Youtube video to surpass 2 billion views.
The star holds the record for most overall views and most views in a day with 38 million for his 'Gangnam Style' follow-up Gentleman, reported Billboard.
"2 billion views... they are very honorable and very burdensome numbers," PSY said in a statement.
"With appreciation, I will come back soon with more joyful contents."
No other video comes close to 'Gangnam' on the streaming service's list of top videos. Justin Bieber's 'Baby' is the only other billion-plus video at 1.04 billion views.
PSY’s popular Gangnam step was recognized in the west when Ellen DeGeneres invited the Korean Pop star to her show to teach Britney Spears the Gangnam step and when Ellen told Britney that she has to remove her high-heeled shoes to do the dance step, PSY protested that the point was to ‘to dress classy, and dance cheesy.’ The episode went on to become immensely popular and from there on celebrities all over the world started doing the Gangnam step, Jon bon Jovi, Heidi Klum, Madonna, Barack Obama and many more.
