GUWHATAI: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam arrives on a daylong visit to Assam Friday to attend the valedictory function of the 12th National Children's Science Congress here. The president will address the gathering and interact with about 650 child scientists from across the country at the Judges Field ground here. Two child scientists from Sri Lanka are also taking part at the congress as special invitees. Kalam was to attend the inaugural function of the congress Sunday but deferred his visit following the killer tsunami that left thousands dead in the southern parts of the country. The president is also scheduled to visit Friday the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology here to interact with scientists from the northeast. Kalam will attend the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi Memorial Award presentation ceremony in the city and give away awards to renowned social worker Nirmala Deshpande and veteran journalist from Assam, Satish Chandra Kakati. Kalam leaves for New Delhi later in the evening.
