'Powai' To Become India's Next Startup Destination


Sasha Mirchandani, Managing Partner of VC firm Kae Capital firmly believes that the startup will gather serious attention from Venture Capitalsas he has already invested in 3 startups from the town. The security feeling one gets by staying close to the institute one studied and the sense of familiarity it offers is what binds IIT-B grads from flocking away.  "Having our office here helps us stay in touch with our alma mater," said Nipun Katyal, Manish Tirthani and Varun Jhawar from IIT who are Co-founders of Chef's Basket, a ready-to-cook packaged food brand.

Bajaj, a former IIT-Kanpur and Harvard Business School graduate, co-founded Bazee.com in the early 90’s commented that "There is clearly an X factor about Powai but we need to watch how things will play out". With venture capitalist displaying an increased liking towards the budding startup town, people give a keen eye whether it would imitate the success of Silicon Valley.
