Sweden: Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has won a contract from Telenor Sweden to upgrade its 3G radio network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Under the contract, NSN will deploy Flexi Multi Radio Base Station to the whole network, and upgrade the core network to increase both capacity and functionality enabling Telenor to provide high speed mobile broadband services across Sweden. It will also provide network management systems along with project management, network implementation, planning and optimization as well as software, hardware and competence development services.
Additionally, NSN will expand the functionality and capabilities of the core network, including IP-connectivity and providing a common register for GSM, 3G and LTE access. The NetAct network management system will monitor, manage and optimize the network.
Lars-Ake Norling, CEO of Telenor Sweden, said, "Our ambition is to build Sweden's best mobile broadband network, responding to the huge demand on the market to provide high-quality, high-speed services. NSN showed not only the best and a cost-efficient technology solution, but also the strongest commitment and best local delivery capabilities to meet our ambitious time-to market requirement." The deal follows NSN's five-year contract from mobile operator Zain to optimize, modernize and manage Zain's over 3,000 multi-vendor mobile networks sites in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
