No job security for Satyamites despite Tech Mahindra deal
Chennai: The deal between IT major Tech Mahindra and the software giant Satyam Computers has come as a relieve for everyone associated with Satyam, except for the employees who are reeling under lay-off stress. "We were really anxious till the day before the announcement of Tech Mahindra buying the stake in Satyam. Now, we are confused as there are rumors about a complete restructuring of Satyam," Ram Kumar, who works in the marketing team in Chennai told The Economic Times. Satyam's 47,000 employees are still under the axe as Tech Mahindra plans to scout for top talents from outside to run the software firm. Employees' worries range from layoffs to whether the company will continue to have an office in Chennai. "We need representatives from the management or the new owners to come and talk to us about the sale. Some of our North American clients had never heard of Tech Mahindra before the buyout," said R Shankar, who has been with Satyam for over four years. Currently, Satyam has two kinds of employees, billable and non-billable associates. Billable associates are employees who are working on projects; non-billable associates are on the bench or between projects.
