NGO to start education programmes on environmental issues

Pune: Green Energy Foundation, a Pune-based NGO, along with UNESCO, is going to start 'Ecovarsity', an education-cum-training programme on environmental issues on June 5.
There will be tie-ups between the foundation and reputed universities around the world for the programme. Ecovarsity will include various programmes like workshops, certificate training courses, distant-learning degree courses of the duration of six months to one year, vocational courses and research programmes. All these programmes will be open to all, said Sharmila Oswal, President, Green Energy Foundation to TOI.
The motif behind the educational programme is to increase the recognition of the importance of education for achieving sustainable development. Preserving nature and preventing environmental will be the key areas of focus.
Topics that are to be covered by the progarmme include solid, liquid and zero-waste management, vermicomposting, energy management, carbon footprints, biodiversity, climate change, sewage treatment and green building. By June end, the training programmes will start.
