New Delhi: New Horizons India, a joint venture of New Horizons Worldwide and the Shriram Group, the fastest growing training and education brand in India, has announced that it has set up a new Strategic Business Unit (SBU) -with an investment of $25 million- to deliver knowledge products and services for the student community in India. Titled 'Knowledge Horizon', the new SBU will focus on two areas - (a) Coaching classes for CBSE Standard IX to XII, Coaching for engineering and IIT entrance exams and (b) providing teaching aids for schools.
"Research indicates a high dissatisfaction among students, parents and even teachers regarding the quality and impact of tuition classes in India," said Ajay K Sharma, President and CEO, New Horizons India. "Leveraging our success in delivering systematic course led IT training, we hope to bring new levels of professionalism into the business of coaching students in India - and provide supplementary education focused not only at building academic prowess but also at overall personality development."
Knowledge Horizon will provide a blended learning approach - combining classroom trainer led teaching with IT enabled support such as standardized visually appealing and interactive content, rich in animation. With a student teacher ratio of 20:1, students will be admitted to the coaching class following a first level of screening that includes both a written as well as oral examination. Some other USPs of the program will include mandatory parental guidance sessions to ensure that the student's families are fully participating in their child's supplementary education. 'We believe that the 360 degree approach will achieve the end objective of true 'learning' and therefore a far more valuable goal than 'learning by rote'. 'To this end Knowledge Horizon will also include personality development modules as part of its curriculum.' said Mita Brahma, National Head, Knowledge Horizon. The unit will offer learning tools for classroom coaching in Science and Commerce streams for the CBSE board in the first phase. Knowledge Horizon coaching classes will initially be set up in Delhi across six centres, with a total intake capacity of 1000 students. This will expand to 50 centres by March 2009 as first phase of expansion.
