Beijing: To reduce the air pollution around the premises of Beijing Olympic Games, ElectroJet, an engineering design firm, has developed a new fuel-injection system for motorcycles. The system will reduce harmful emissions by 65 percent and it may increase fuel economy by 12 percent.
ElectroJet has tie up with Freescale, a semiconductor manufacturer, to use its microcontroller (MCU) technology. Motorcycles and motorbikes are the major mode of transportation in China and other emerging countries, so major source of air pollution is generated by them.
The new fuel-injected system can be bolted with a standard motorcycle carburetor and it is made possible by a 16-bit microcontroller developed by Free- scale engineers in Arizona that controls the spark of the engine and fuel flow.
ElectroJet will introduce the new fuel system in the Beijing Olympics soon. Dayang Motorcycle, the official motorcycle supplier for the Beijing Olympics has got the right to use the system with its motorcycles.
Initially, motorcycles with fuel-injected system will be used by Beijing police and emergency medical personnel during the Olympics.
Athletes who participate in the Olympics are the worst affected group as they find it difficult to maintain good health due to the air pollution. Beijing is one of the cities with bad air quality. The Chinese government has made it mandatory that the city's 3.3 million vehicles be used only on alternating days.
