Bangalore: According to IDC's Asia-Pacific External Disk Storage Tracker, June 2009 release, NetApp has emerged as the Network Attached Storage (NAS) market leader in India with a share of 45.5 percent in terms of factory revenue in calendar year (CY) 2008. Also, it was among the leading players in the Ethernet Storage (iSCSI SAN) market with 29.7 percent share in terms of factory revenue during the same period. According to the report, the overall iSCSI SAN market recorded a growth of 21.1 percent over CY 2007 in terms of factory revenue. The market recorded a higher than average Year-on-Year (YoY) growth of 69.5 percent in CY 2008, thereby increasing its contribution by two percentage points in the overall iSCSI SAN market, from five percent in CY 2007 to seven percent in CY 2008. "With more and more companies trying to reduce their IT budgets and yet keep their businesses agile, iSCSI SAN has emerged as one of the sought after solutions," said Amit Dalal, Assistant Manager, Enterprise Computing Research, IDC India. According to NetApp, IP storage (Ethernet Storage) is gaining more popularity in the current economic situation where tight budgets are forcing companies to relook their IT infrastructure. "The market is evolving and the momentum is shifting towards ethernet in a big way. The underlying reason for this is a ten-fold increase in ethernet speeds. We are seeing increased adoption of 10G in data centers, which will drive economies of scale. This in turn is catalysing the shift towards deployment of ethernet storage. NetApp's prominent position in the India IP storage market is a strong foundation for us to provide innovative solutions that help customers increase efficiency and control costs," said Rajesh Janey, President, Sales, India and SAARC, NetApp. "Significant advances in ethernet technology like 10 Gigabit and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) driven by key storage networking players have made this a promising option. It offers the speed and reliability of Fibre Channel at the cost of ethernet," said Surajit Sen, Director, Channels, Marketing and Alliances, NetApp India.
