MENLO PARK, CA:Montreux Equity Partners, a life science and healthcare focused venture capital firm, said it had promoted Manish Chapekar to general partner and managing member. Before joining Montreux in 2001 as an associate partner, Chapekar was a manager of strategy and new business development at Pharmacia Corp., acquired by Pfizer Inc. in 2003, where he oversaw strategic development, in-licensing, acquisitions and investments in life science companies and technologies. He worked for Monsanto through its acquisition by Pharmacia in 2000. As an investor he sits on the boards of Kanisa Pharmaceuticals and Percutaneous Systems Inc. and is involved in Montreux's investments in Pulmonx Inc., SkinMedica Inc., Somaxon Pharmaceuticals Inc. and TransOral Pharmaceuticals. Chapekar said Montreux is investing two biotech funds worth a combined $170 million. They are "two funds that co-invest with each other on a pro-rata basis," he said and are about one third invested. He said Montreux would not consider raising a new fund until at least the end of 2006.
