Mobile Internet Overtakes Desktop Web In India: Report
Bangalore: India has a greater number of mobile web users than the internet users on desktop, claims Mary Meeker report.
Mary Meerker, famous as the 'Queen of the Net' gives her yearly online trends report and she observes the consumer’s online interests. Her report of this year, among others, states and highlights the reasons behind the mobile internet traffic surpassing the desktop internet usage in India.
Here are some excerpts from the report of Mary Meerker, who also is a partner at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
The number of users added “between” 2008 to 2012, though India has only 11 percent internet penetration, is 88 million, taking the country to second spot in this survey, while china tops by adding 282 million users in the mentioned period.
The subscription usage on Smartphones in India is woefully low at 4 million of the 44 million mobile users, indicating that the users are okay to browse on normal phones. And the mobile web is India’s big area of growth where for the first time the Mobile web traffic had overtaken Desktop wed traffic.
The report predicts the growth of Healthcare, Education, and mobile Wallet in this latest mobile web boom.
