Mumbai: Indian mobile entertainment industry is now facing a set back as the users showing less interest to utilize this service and pay money. Many of the content providers are planning to review their effort in this sector, as they are not getting expected financial gain, reported Business Standard.
Witnessing this trend, content providers like Star Mobile Entertainment, which had offered its service whereby the users could opt to view soaps from across Star India Network, recently reviewed its operational strategy.
According to Viren Popli, Senior Vice-President, Star Mobile Entertainment, "Unless the delivery capabilities are not enhanced, there is no business model in place. Therefore, our plans on launching mobile-specific serials and so on have also been put on hold for sometime."
However the industry players observed that the concept of short films and soaps for mobile platform is an important step forward for content providers even though they are not making financial gains.
Ishwar Jha, CEO, Digital Media Convergance, opined that one of the prime reasons for these services not catching on is the absence of infrastructure. "For videos to be popular we would need 3G technology, for which the government is yet to solve the spectrum issue. Moreover, there is no clear revenue model, hence pricing is still a contentious issue. Besides mobile users have not been taken on to mobile TV," he added.
