Bangalore: After the Department of Telecom announced delay in the launch of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) a couple of days ago, many have become apprehensive if the rescheduled date of November 25 MNP launch will happen or not? However, this time it looks more likely than not.
We are affirmative about it as Telecordia, the company chosen by government to introduce and monitor MNP, has received the nod from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB). This approval has laid the path to go ahead with the services. The U.S. based Telecordia is to monitor the MNP services in the eastern and southern regions of India. For the rest of the country, Syniverse, another U.S. company, will implement the MNP services.
FIPB had blocked the proposal by Telecordia for several months now citing security issues. Now with the government in a hurry to start the MNP services in the country, FIPB cleared the deal. With all the hurdles cleared now, we hope the MNP services will this time roll out in the said day, i.e., November 25.
