Bangalore: The Mac App Store is finally open and has over 1,000 apps. However, within hours of the announcement, there have been reports of software piracy as well.
As per reports in AppleInsider, software pirates have been able to install and run some of the paid apps. They do so by copy-pasting the receipt files of any free app, leading to cracks in some paid apps.
The Mac App Store comes with the Snow Leopard update to the Mac OS X 10.6. Once you install the update, the App Store app can be seen in the Dock. It contains apps for MacBook and iMac, which can be bought from and on the devices.
The apps feature are either paid or free and are classified under Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity and Utilities categories. AppleInsider reported of some users complaining on the quality of apps on the store.
The Mac App Store has been, since its announcement, facing many hitches. First there were two announcements made of its launch in December 6 and December 13. With the Store finally seeing the light of the day, piracy and customer criticism reports now appear. In this scenario, Apple needs to make several amends in the Store for its success.
