LG loses patent lawsuit, Apple in trouble too
Bangalore: AU Optronics (AUO) has won the patent lawsuit against LG Display which may hinder the computer and handheld businesses. The lawsuit may affect LG's HDTV business and also Apple which has inked $500 million contract with LG for its screens. According to the findings by the District of Delaware court, LG had violated four AUO's patents relating to the performance and reliability of LCDs. Taiwan-based AUO said that it would seek a permanent ban on displays that infringe on the patents and thus, preventing LG from shipping its potentially infringing HDTVs, monitors, notebooks and even phones to the U.S, plus some other legal tough talk for good measure. However, LG Display has not expressed whether it plans to appeal, but has lost the patent lawsuit that triggered AUO's own counter-lawsuit.
