Lenovo aims at SMBs for growth

Bangalore: Independent research firm Gartner reported that Lenovo India had 9.7 percent shares in the first quarter of 2011. The PC manufacturer, Lenovo, aims its market share to grow into double-digits over the next few months. Amar Babu, MD of Lenovo India said that the company targets to double its small and medium business(SMB) market share by 2012. The company is soon to launch its much awaited tablet, IdeaPad Z570, by the end of this year. Amar said, "IdeaPad has been launched in the U.S. recently and it will be soon launched in India. We are planning to launch it before the end of this financial year". He further added that the company is now focusing on the SMB space to set up its growth rate as one third of the total Indian market is contributed by SMBs with around four million units. The desk-based and mobile PC market in India is around 2.6 million units in first half of 2011. According to Gartner, there is a 6.2 percent increase over the first quarter of 2010. Amar said, "We are expanding through redesign of our products, route to market and giving value added services to customers. We were at 9.7 percent market share in the first quarter of this year as per independent survey reports, and we are now expecting to grow by double-digits, at more than 10 percent anytime soon, may be this quarter or next quarter. We are waiting for market raters to come out with the latest report" On Tuesday, the company unveiled 10 new products including laptops and PCs aiming at SMBs. The device is equipped with Lenovo's enhanced experience 2.0 for Windows 7, ensuring faster boot time, better power management and features. Rajiv Rao, Director - SMB, Lenovo India, said, "We are offering PCs that can withstand the vagaries of an SMB's growth journey blended with attractive designs and affordable prices." He added that company is also expanding its 500 retail points to reach its audience at both ends of the SMB field.
