Rovio, the maker of the hyped Angry Birds, raised $42 million from Accel Partners, Atomico Ventures, and Felicis Ventures in its series A round of funding. The fund was raised to grow internationally across mobile, social media, and other platforms. Rovio was founded in 2003 by Mikael Hed. Angry Birds was released as a casual puzzle game for touchscreen smartphones and has since then has had more than 50 million downloads till date. The popularity of the Angry Birds saw it being made into a movie too, and Rovio has made revenue of $100 million in 2011.
