The biggest challenge for a company is not just to change its IT structure according to the changing environment, but also to put the new IT structure into use, to perform effectively. The issue comes when they have to figure out how effective the new initiatives are, and the fact that the initial payback from the deployment of IT services is not immediate. In order to measure the agility of IT services, the firms have to have a periodic feedback on how the IT is able to support the business, the level maintenance involved, the quality of the system, the kind of interfaces the new service supports and the level of reuse. IT agility is not how fast the firm can move to a new technology, but how fast the company can actually execute its business because of IT.
