Launched by married couple Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake, the co-founders of Ludicorp in 2004, FLickr is an image hosting and video hosting website, a web services suite and an online community. The couple stumbled across the idea out of tools which were originally created for Ludicorp’s web based multiplayer online game.
Butterfield graduated from University of Cabridge. Caterina graduated from Vassar College. She was an Art Director at Salon.com and later donned the role of managing the community forums of Netscape. After Ludicorp field for bankruptcy in 2003, the couple took the photo-sharing feature and founded Flickr. It was acquired by Yahoo in 2005, after which Caterina ran the Technology Developlment Group at Yahoo till June 2008; while Butterfield continued as the General Manager of FLickr before putting down his papers in July 2008. In 2009, Butterfield founded a gaming startup Tiny Speck, while Caterina co-founded Hunch along with Chris Dixon. Hunch was acquired by eBay in November 2011.
