ISRO to develop cameras for space mission
Bangalore: Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) Laboratory for Electro-Optical System (LEOS) centre in Peenya, Bangalore is all set to develop some of the vital parts of the Indian space flight mission, "Human Space Programme". ISRO Chairman Madhavan Nair announced three years ago that India is seriously pursuing a space flight mission, reports Chethan Kumar of the Deccan Herald. The Government of India, in February last year, gave a green signal to the Indian Human Space Flight Programme proposed by ISRO to develop and launch the Orbital Vehicle to carry a two-member crew by 2015. According to Nair, the spaceship would be launched by India's GSLV-Mk II launcher. The LEOS centre will develop the vision cameras and port glass panels for the orbit vehicle, said LEOS Director V Koteswara Rao. The port glass panels will be similar to panels used in present-day aircrafts, with some additional applications as the objective of the usage is different. According to Rao, the vision cameras will help in collecting images, which would be compiled and studied. Apart from that, they will also help the crew collect information of the vehicle itself, thereby helping in monitoring it.
