India's Overpopulation Making Way for Food and Water Dearth

Dr. Naresh C Saxena, National Advisory Council member (NAC) stressing upon the lack of insufficient crop related infrastructures in India said “India would face extreme starvation in the near future as the produced grain is not procured and stored properly due to poor governance and infrastructural facilities,” reported Zee News.

According to a report by United Nations, India is expected to become one of the most populous countries in the world and will surpass the population of China by 2028. The world population too is predicted to grow upto 8.1 billion by the year 2025.

Likewise, a fall of 19.19 percent is registered to the availability of drinking water in India in the last ten years recording 44.3 percent in 2001 and 35.8 percent in 2011.

Although India still worries about hunger and undernourishment, there is a better performance in respect to literacy, overall sex ratio and child sex ratio.

As over-population leads to scarcity in the food and water availability, the government of India recently introduced the National Food Security Bill which will provide food to almost 67 percent of India's population with an aim to totally eradicate the problem of endemic hunger in the country. This food bill may to some extent reduce the problem of food scarcity in India.
