Indians lead in charity among emerging markets
Bangalore: Indians lead in charity among emerging markets such as China and Brazil, reveals a report by the global consultancy firm Bain& Company. The report says that there is a 50 percent hike in the donation since 2006 by the wealthy Indians. The donation has approximately been increased to $5-6 billion in 2010 from $2 billion in 2006. The report reveals that the rich Indians plan to increase the donations for the charity in the next five years. As it is believed that the population of rich Indians is increasing, advanced techniques have come up to help the wealthy lot to donate more. Although India's charity donations have gone up since 2006, it is still far behind the developed countries of the world like UK and USA. The cause of 40 percent Indian population donating was for the sake of education. The other causes of the charity are housing, shelter and food. The survey also depicts that rich Indian population is giving away 1.5-3 percent of their annual household income to charity.But the wealthiest of Indians are donating much lesser than the Americans who contribute 9 percent of their total income.
