Indians are 3rd highest Opera Mini users in world
Bangalore: India has been ranked third worldwide in terms of Opera Mini users according to the latest State of the Mobile Web report (August 2010) released by Opera. The new report has profiled the top 20 countries for Opera Mini usage worldwide for the first time. On compiling the top 20 countries for the first time, Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software said, "We believe the mobile Web has the power to bring tremendous social and economic change to the inhabitants of many countries. Tracking the top 20 will enable us to more closely track these changes as they happen." As per the report, page-views by the Indian users have grown by 397 percent, with unique user growth increasing by 339 percent. The report added that on an average 7MB data is transferred per user and 18KB data is transferred per page view. The State of the Mobile Web report also ranks the top 10 sites in India based on unique users. The list is topped by google.com followed by orkut.com, facebook.com and youtube.com. This list clearly depicts the growing addiction of Indian users toward social networking. The report also gives the list of top 10 handsets used for browsing. And Nokia beats the other devices hands down as all the top 10 devices are from the Nokia brand. Worldwide, Opera Mini users in August 2010 numbered over 66.5 million. This is an increase of 6.8 percent from July 2010 users of the browser. The number of unique users has also upped by 108 percent since August 2009. The month of August also recorded over 33.9 billion pages viewed by Opera Mini users, which is an increase of 143 percent as compared to August 2009. The Opera State of the Mobile Web report further reiterates a recent survey report by Sensis e-Business that says most of the mobile phone users now prefer surfing the web on their handsets instead of computers.
