Indian Movies Which Were Caught in Legal Trouble

Aarakshan

Aarakshan, released in the year 2011 has Amitabh, Saif and Deepika in the lead roles. The movie, which is a socio-political drama, revolves around caste based reservations in Indian government jobs and educational institutions. Saif plays the role of a Dalit in the movie and according to certain pro-Dalit groups in Kanpur the role of Saif(who is from a royal family) was an insult to the community.

National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) viewed the movie, following complaints regarding its content. “While the overall theme of the film is not objectionable, it is loaded with anti-Dalit and anti-reservation dialogues,” said NCSC chairman P.L. Punia.

NCSC termed the movie as anti-Dalit and the film was banned in the states of UP, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh before its theatrical release.

Apart from the bans which were announced earlier, there was an unexpected mid screening ban in the multiplexes of Gurgaon.

Supreme Court lifted the ban on Aarakshan in Uttar Pradesh later.
