Indian IT firms set to benefit from UK spending cuts
London: While Britain accounts for a substantial proportion of the revenues for Indian IT firms, the majority of that is from the private sector. Now, the British Government's efficiency drive could change that, according to Nasscom. Since the British coalition government plans to cut spending, it can prove to be a major opportunity for Indian IT firms, reports Vidya Ram for Business Line. According to Ameet Nivsarkar, Vice-President for global trade development at Nasscom, if the Government plans to increase efficiency for a competitive perspective to its work, Nasscom can provide help to do so. Every company wants to capture the market. There is certainly the economics and the political will to drive efficiency and outsourcing, said George O'Connor, a Software and IT Sector Analyst at Panmure Gordon in London. With efficiency as a major plank in the electoral campaign, the Government has hired two top efficiency and outsourcing advocates to chart the course - Peter Gershon and Martin Read. Gershon was the author of a report seven years ago recommending $20 billion of savings and Read is a former chief of IT services firm Logica. According to O'Connor, for Indian companies that are looking to take on more UK government business, the rise of immigration as an electoral issue can be a problem.
