Know for her own unique style and creations that are combinations of traditional Indian Craftsmanship with Contemporary style and materials, Ritu Kumar has been making huge strides in the Indian fashion scene. She has been designing since 1969. She has designed a variety of clothes like for the Indian participants at the International beauty pageants (Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific)

She has even crossed shores and has names like the late Princess Diana and Jemima Khan to her credit.  She has also designed outfits for Mischa Barton from the O.C fame. She wore a short dress which looked a lot like an Anarkali Kurta.  The former Spice Girl, Melanie Brown has also worn outfits from the designer’s collection “Label”.

Recently Ritu Kumar opened a store in North America in The Mall at Oak Tree. She also has to her credit a book “Costumes and Textiles of Royal India” which she co-authored and was published by Christies in 1999. This book basically traces the history of textile design in Indian from the Harappan times.
