Gurpreet Singh Sarin

Gurpreet Singh Sarin, an Indian origin aspiring singer happens to be the first Sikh on American Idol. He won the first round of auditions for the twelfth season of American Idol.

Even though Singh has been voted out of the show, he was successful in impressing the judges Nicky Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson with his nickname The Turbanator!

Singh had already established himself in the world of music as a proficient tabla player and classical singer. He and his family are well renowned in the Washington metropolitan area for singing Gurbani kirtan and playing several Indian classical instruments.

Singh is student of Computers and Information Science at a university in New York. An admirer of bollywood, Singh is highly inspired by artists such as tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, sarod expert Amjad Ali Khan and late sitar maestro Ravi Shankar.
