India honors New York MBA student

New York: Shail Choksi, a second-year MBA and finance student and president of the Indian Graduate Students Association of the School of Management at New York Institute of Technology, was presented with the Rajiv Gandhi Rastryia Ekta Samman award by the All India National Unity Conference for her business milestones. Choksi, who was recently appointed as the youngest IT consultant for the state government in Gujarat, India was recognized for the innovative Web site she designed to market handicraft products such as wall hangings, purses, and tablecloths created by Indian artisans. Dr. Manmohan Singh, prime minister of India, presented Choksi with the award, which is given in remembrance of the late Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi to men and women from various fields for their outstanding services, achievements and contributions. Choksi was hired by the government to coordinate the sales of the products and to develop a robust e-commerce website to market and sell the handicrafts since handicraft sales being a main source of income for many Indian artisans.
