“Startups have been early adopters of agile practices and continue to lead, primarily motivated by the benefits of shorter time to market, shorter cycle time in responding to market feedback, and most importantly, a faster validation of the business case. Indian enterprises have also started adopting agile practices, and we are seeing interest from various verticals and segments,” added Tiwari.

Explaining about the challenges associated with Agile based systems, Tiwari said that a fear of change has caught providers when they move from a rigid waterfall methodology to a much more flexible Agile way of working.

“In many ways, the transition from waterfall to agile is a cultural change such as avoid failure vs. safe environment to fail fast, focus on intermediate deliverables vs. outcomes, etc. There are challenges in training and retraining employees who have decades of experience working in an older way and to transition to the new more collaborative way of working. On most occasions, the prevailing company culture will hamper the adoption of Agile. One way to solve this problem is to have an executive sponsor to champion Agile adoption within the organization, and this needs to be treated as a not-so-easy organization transformation program,” Tiwari said.
