IBM has launched Business Finder Technology, a location-based mobile resources management technology developed by its India Research Laboratory. The technology has potential to offer a mobile yellow page for mobile users, who will be able to locate the most highly rated and available service vendors like plumbers, electricians, carpenters or doctors in the vicinity. It is an IMS compliant solution and is based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Business Finder makes use of geographic information system (GIS) applications and data analysis to provide the relevant information about a specific utility. Both consumers and businesses can derive the benefits of this technology. It offers the capability to combine various attributes including location, reputation, dynamic workload and feedback from consumers to select for consumers the closest available service vendors. Telecommunications service providers can track and update data sources like mobility, presence and reputation of service vendors, using the technology. Mobile subscribers will be able to access the services, even when roaming - nationally, as well as internationally. Interested business entities will have to register themselves with the service providers. Also, this will help the business entities expand their customer base by enabling new avenues through the mobile phone. The technology also has a potential to be applied to other industries including transportation & logistics, utilities, healthcare and manufacturing. The global vendor is talking to some of the major service providers both in India and abroad.
