IAN Recasts Strategy for Startups in Mobile and Internet

New Delhi: India's angel network group, IAN (Indian Angel Network) has recast few of their strategies to help new entrepreneurs to address exciting growth opportunities for developing Internet and Mobile products, services and applications to address the mushrooming market.
IAN is organizing a half day workshop at Delhi on November 12, 2011. The interested participant can send their business plans to the network. The shortlisted firms from among the business plans will be invited to attend a half day workshop with IAN as well as experts at New Delhi. Post the workshop, the startups will get a chance to present their plans for funding and network with IAN Angel Investors.
Started in April 2006, IAN is a unique concept that brings together highly successful entrepreneurs and CEOs from India and around the world who are interested in investing in startup and early stage ventures that have the potential of creating disproportionate value. IAN members understand the need of funds and mentoring at the early stage of a venture. As a part of its twin strategy, IAN proposes to fund two dozen early startups building Mobile and Internet-based produces up to
75 lakh each along with valuable mentoring support and participate in helping build businesses, refining the product strategy and shaping growth of the new companies in their initial phase.
IAN looks at investing upto $1 million, and exiting over a three to five year period through an IPO, M&A or strategic sale. It has already invested in 25 countries across multiple sectors, including several attractive partial or full exits.
The network has more than 170 members from across the country and several others from overseas including leading successful entrepreneurs and CEOs from diverse sectors. IAN members include Jerry Rao, Saurabh Srivastava, Pramod Bhasin, Raman Roy, Rajan Anandan, Rehan Yar Khan, Harish Mehta, Rajiv Luthra, Pradeep Gupta and several others. Also, several institutions like IBM, SIDBI, Spice Telecentures, Intel are the members of the network.
The portfolio companies where IAN has invested include software products developer Druva and Innovize Tech Software from Pune; Kwench, a library solutions startup, Karmic Life Sciences, an oncology focused CRO; Jigsee, a mobile video streaming company for feature phones; Groffr, a real estate group buying pioneer; and several others.
The incubation center of the network, Department of Science and Technology, is currently incubating over two dozen startups with select angel investors mentoring them. During the incubation period, the incubatoees not only get assistance in terms of IT, HR, Marketing, Small Funding; but help in redefining the proposition to create an investable business for an angel investor.
