HTC to sell 10 lakh touchscreen mobiles in 2010

New Delhi: Eying at booming mobile market in India, High Tech Computer (HTC), a Taiwan based touch screen mobile manufacturer is targeting to sell 10,00,000 touch screen devices in Indian market in 2010. The company is hoping to sell 2. 5 lakh handsets during this year and has set a target of 600,000 units for 2009.
"Major cities across the country contribute 70 percent sale of HTC devices. Our major customers are in the top nine cities. We have our presence in 29 cities and towns," Ajay Sharma, Country head, HTC India told Financial Chronicle.
He said, "Today, the Indian mobile market has only seen the tip of the iceberg. There is a huge space to grow. We are strongly focusing on the Indian market and exploring opportunities to grow."
Seeing 3G technology devices as the core strength of the company, he mentioned that HTC would be launching a couple of new models to meet the needs of 3G subscribers.
Currently, HTC has 13 handset models for Indian market which includes 11 global system for mobile communications (GSM) phones and two code division multiple access (CDMA) phones, priced between
10, 000 and
30, 000.
Sharma added that the 3G devices would be launched at different price points, depending on the competition in the mobile arena. "We are witnessing a growth of more than double in terms of our handset shipments. In the fourth quarter of this year, we might be exiting around three handset models and would be launching around five new models to suite consumer tastes," he noted.
Earlier, the touchscreen hand set maker launched HTC touch with a fingertip control feature, enabling more intuitive navigation. TouchFLO equipped HTC Touch is also enabling consumers just to sweep their figure across the screen to get access to the most commonly used content, contacts and features in a simple finger flick.
