HP unveils HP Left Hand P4000 for emerging businesses in India
Bangalore: The slow growth of virtualization in India has not deterred the IT companies to expand their virtual product portfolio and the latest firm in the line is Hewlett Packard (HP). The hardware vendor has unveiled its HP Left Hand P4000 SAN, virtual servers targeted at the emerging businesses, deploying the resources of Left Hand Networks, an Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCI) solution provider, acquired by HP in October 2008. The company emphasizes the importance of the Indian market for iSCSI solutions as India and China comprise of more than 50 percent of the $433 million iSCSI Asia Pacific market. "The company has partnered with the virtualization leaders like VMware and Microsoft for its solutions," said Bill Chambers, Vice President, Storage Works Division, Lefthand Networks, an HP company. The company asserts that its cost structure would help it gain the market share. "The cost for the solution begins from 2.5 lakhs per terabyte inclusive of all added software costs, which would be an edge over our competitors, whose products do not come in the all-inclusive range," said Amit Malhotra, Manager Volume Storage, APAC and Japan. "Virtualization in India is comparatively low compared to the developed economies and the lack of proper awareness schemes on the part of the companies can be deduced to be a reason for the failure," said Malhotra. The company's distribution channel includes 50 distributors and 3500 channel partners of which 400 partners are in India.
