HP Labs India and BITS, Pilani jointly unveil PhD fellowship

 HP Labs India and BITS, Pilani jointly unveil PhD fellowship
Bangalore: HP Labs India announced the launch of 'ITS-HP Labs India PhD Fellowship' in collaboration with Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS). The fellowship offered for one year is planned at advanced research in information and communication technologies for rapidly growing economies including India. As part of this programme, HP Labs India will be offering comprehensive scholarships to successful candidates to pursue PhD research with BITS Pilani for up to three years. "The BITS-HP Pilani fellowship has been instituted to offer candidates an opportunity to work to the highest academic standards with HP Labs", said Anjaneyulu Kuchibhotla, Research Manager, HP Labs India. "Through this initiative, we look forward to attract candidates for research in emerging technologies to address specific technological needs of countries such as India." Candidates will be able to access HP Labs India facilities in Bangalore as they do their research. The fellowship will also cover the expenditure for attending one selected international conference and presenting a research paper. Speaking on the collaboration, Prof V.S. Rao, Deputy Director, BITS, Pilani said, "The fellowship will enable our research efforts at the center to proactively contribute to the development of elite research professionals—individuals who will be making tangible contributions to society globally including India." Students who hold a Master's Degree in Engineering/Technology can apply, if they are interested in doing doctoral work in the areas like document image processing, human computer interfaces, multimodal systems, human computer information retrieval and peer to peer systems. The fellowship will be renewed annually based on the performance in studies and research for a maximum of three years. The candidates will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 per month and all academic-related fees will be covered by HP Labs India. Additional living expenses of Rs 20,000 will also be included in the scholarship when working in Bangalore.
