Bangalore: A design flaw in chips produced by Intel has affected the products from Hewlett-Packard and Dell which delayed the launching of some of their products. On Monday, Intel revealed a design error in its new Sandy Bridge line of processors. The world's largest PC vendor Hewlett-Packard has announced that only a small fraction of its PCs sold since early January are affected, mostly consumer notebooks and desktops. It also offered to refund customers who bought PCs with the flawed chips. The company said that customers can return their PCs and either choose a comparable product or receive a refund. HP has officially stated that it stopped making computers with the faulty Intel chip and has put on hold the shipment of computers with the flawed chip. Dell stated that four of its computers are affected namely XPS 8300 desktop, the Vostro 460 desktop for business customers and two models of the Alienware desktop computer for gamers. The company also has offered a refunding plan similar to HP's offer. Intel revealed that the defect was found after the company shipped more than 100,000 such chips to the computer makers. The company has also assured that it will start shipping an updated version of the chip in mid-February.
