Have local employees to win govt. projects: Premji
Mumbai: Wipro Chairman Azim Premji believes that a company should have a local face because 'it is good politics and it is good to be sensitive to the political realities of unemployment'. "With the local face the company can then start bidding for local state government contracts," Premji said in an interview with Wall Street Journal. "Of the balance which is overseas, about 28 percent is local. We would like to take that up to at least 50 percent In Saudi Arabia, we are hiring from campuses, including women. Our experience with local women is very good because for them it is a transformation in their lifestyle and they get independence and they get a different status in the family," said Premji. Wipro seems to be mainly focusing on organic growth rates and organic investments and in the company there is only reasonable activity with regards to merger and acquisition. "Unless we get something which is of major strategic value, we won't rush into it," Premji told the Wall Street Journal in an interview. About new businesses, Premji said that Wipro is developing eco-energy and said that Wipro could make it a billion dollar business in five years. "We are very uniquely suited (for eco-energy). We have IT technology, we have electronic technology because of our hardware business, we have lighting technology because of our lighting business, we have water technology because of our water business. And we have built a very strong systems integration capability because of our IT business in India. We can make it a billion dollar business in five years," added Premji.
