Govt. picks Infy for the eBiz project
Bangalore: Infosys has been awarded a project by the Government of India, to launch a virtual gateway improve the business in India. Under this project that is called eBiz, the IT bellwether would be designing and developing the IT infrastructure and it will also implement and maintain the eBiz solution for the next 10 years. The project by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) is among the 27 Central, State and Integrated Mission Mode Projects (MMPs) under the National E-Governance Plan (NEGP) of the Central Government. "Through this project, the Ministry of Commerce aims to encourage and develop a favorable business environment in India," said Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry. The government will pay Infosys 15 crore for executing the pilot phase of this project. The 'Single window' approach will cater to the requirements of businesses for government-to-business (G2B) services throughout the business life cycle, namely through the pre-establishment, commencement, operations, expansion and when required, closure stages of the business. "The company is also bidding for several other large outsourcing deals in the public sector, including the ones to be awarded by the state-run telecom operator BSNL, the defence forces and Indian Railways," said Binod H.R, Senior Vice President and Head, India Business Unit, Infosys.
