Google's new open-source App Engine application
Bangalore: Google has released Thoughtsite, an open-sourced App Engine application building and hosting service. It is a discussion forum providing better insight to developers to create Google App Engine application, writes Kshitij Sobti. Google Apps Engine, a Google scalable solution for creating web application, scales the application automatically and charges based on CPU resources used by the application. Among others, Amazon EC2, and Microsoft Windows Azure also provide developers solution which scales with demand. But unlike Google Apps Engine, EC2 and Microsoft Windows Azure run applications on virtual machines. According to Google, there are not enough functional applications showcasing all the features of Google App Engine. Thoughtsite is an open source application which covers this need, claims Google. Google App Engine is a cloud-based application development and hosting platform to help developers focus on building applications without having to worry about garden-variety computing issues like server problems. Currently, Google is waiving datastore CPU costs because of low performance of the datastore of the business version of its Google App Engine application building and hosting service. The company announced the business version two weeks ago.
