Google Play Store May Reveal Your Personal Information to Developers
Bangalore: A developer has recently revealed that Google Play releases personal information of buyers from its Play Store without consent to the app developers.
Android developer Dan Nolan has discovered that Google sends developers the personal information of customers who have purchased their apps. The information is obtained via a developer Merchant Account, and can include customer's email address and full name. Google Play's Terms of Service make no mention of what their practices are for sharing such information, and it is not known if developers of free apps have the same data available to them, according to ZDNet.
"If you bought the app on Google Play (even if you cancelled the order), I have your email address, your suburb, and in many instances your full name," said Nolan. "This is a massive, massive privacy issue Google. Fix it. Immediately," he added.
Nolan said that he wasn’t sure if Google was giving away such details to free app developers as well but added that such a practice is applied on a global scale. By contrast Apple only sends quantity of its sales in each country to its developers.
Google is yet to release a public statement on the matter as it is clear that the Terms of Service document for Google Play does not authorize to use the private information of its customer in such a way.
