Google fixes Android's SMS crashing bug

Bangalore: Google has updated its Android mobile phone software to solve the SMS crashing bug problem that was causing phone to restart. Google had discovered a pair of denial of service bugs. The first bug creates a means for hackers to kick an Android phone off a mobile network and force a restart via a malformed SMS message. This message would contain a badly formatted WAP push message that triggers a restart on the phones running the open source based software, according to CNET. The second bug tricks the user into downloading and running a malicious application that hooks into Android's (vulnerable) Dalvik application programming interface (API). This API function contains a security bug that means a system restart can be forced. oCERT, an organization that handles security disclosure for open-source projects, advises users to upgrade to Android 1.5 CBDxx, CRCxx and COCxx.
